Carolyn Douthwaite

Managing Director, PiR Interims

From the early days in PiR, which Carolyn co-founded in 1990, her natural rapport building skills have defined her tenure.  Her team leadership, engagement with clients and candidates and passion/interest about anything to do with people, have all contributed to the company’s success and positioning in the market.  She has been a key instigator in securing long-term, preferred supplier relationships with a number of global life science companies.  "Clients come back for more because we get results for them" - says Carolyn.

Ever innovative and intuitive in her approach, she recognised the potential and need for interim managers in the sector, leading to the launch of PiR Interims in 2005, whilst still MD of the Group.  She took over leadership of Interims in late 2006.

"The ability to deliver and think laterally are significant attributes which boutique recruitment organisations, like PiR, must offer in abundance.  Only by applying this approach can we support life science business leaders build effective teams to ensure they achieve their competitive advantage.  The on-going demand for sought after interim skills, such as in the regulatory, medical, programme management and strategic marketing functions, look likely to remain critical to our clients for the foreseeable future.  We must continually refresh our network and challenge traditional client thinking so that they attract the talent they can afford and need."

Outside of work, Carolyn can be found playing tennis at any available opportunity, trying to control a wayward, but powerful forehand!  And a leaning towards 'The Good Life' has resulted in the arrival of chickens in her back garden "named after my girlfriends. At this point they all knew I was bonkers!"  She has also become an active Trustee of a regional charity, Care Network, which supports the elderly across Cambridgeshire.  ‘I consider myself to be incredibly privileged in life and love being able to channel some of my natural skills towards such a worthwhile cause’.
